West Linn Triathlon – Canceled

After careful consideration and much thought I am sorry to inform all of you that the second triathlon in 4 weeks in the Portland area will be canceled. The participation for the West Linn Triathlon is low enough that in order to hold the race we would again need to subsidize the event. We were hopeful that registration would increase as we drew near but at the current time we have 38 athletes registered in both events. I wouldn’t hesitate to hold the event if the losses were reasonable.

We will refund all registration fee’s in the next 30 days after we receive our final revenue checks from Athletepath. When we started these events we thought there was an additional need for more opportunities to race in the area. Where you could go race and be home by noon. Our goal was always to bring safe, organized events to the Portland triathlon community. I feel for the most part our events hit those marks.

We remain undecided as to our plans for next year. I ask all of you to step forward the next time someone else commits to bringing another event to our area. Support our local race promoters, all of the local race promoters. I would like to thank all of the athletes that did support us. We are grateful to you. We had a wonderful time doing this. Meeting the people and getting the opportunity to bring events that change peoples lives is an honor.

My Best,
Ken McLarty
