Series 33 Triathlon

Series 33 Triathlon is proud to announce the inclusion of the Vancouver Triathlon into it’s family of events. The event has been held at Salmon Creek Park for the last 4 years and Series 33 Triathlon is happy to present the Vancouver Triathlon this year on September 15, 2013.

We will be holding 3 events simultaneously:

Olympic distance triathlon
1500m swim, 40km bike, and a 10km run,

Sprint distance triathlon
750m swim, a 20km bike, and a 5km run

Sprint distance duathlon
5km run, 20k bike, and another 5km run

An awards ceremony with some after event nutrition and beverage will follow the event at approximately 12:00 pm on the viewpoint at the Northwest corner of the park.

This event will be a USAT Sanctioned event. If you’re not a USAT member you will need a one day licence.

Parking will be included in your registration fee.

Race day instructions will be emailed to all pre-registered athletes on 9/13. A race day schedule will be in each packet at Packet Pickup.

Packet Pickup

Packet Pickup will be at Max Muscle on Saturday 9/14 between 11:00 am and 5:00 pm.

Those registered before 9/01 are guaranteed a race specific shirt. This is a finishers shirt, cross the finish line get a shirt.

Transition Area

The “transition area” and “finish chute” will be in the grass area north of the restrooms at Klineline Pond. Body Marking will happen prioir to you entering the transition area for the first time. Only competing athletes will be allowed in the transition area.

The event will start at to 8:30 am. We will start on time. Swimmers will start in 4 waves. We will have two starting waves for each event, a mens wave and a women and a relay wave.

Start times are:
8:30 & 8:35 for the olympic distance,
9:00 & 9:05 for the sprint distance.

All USAT rules and regulations apply to this event.

Swim

Distance: 0.9 mi

Two lap .92 / 1500 meter Swim Course, clockwise direction. There is a distance buoy to hit before the first corner buoy.

Sprint Swim Course:
0.5mi single lap swim, to the NW corner and continue to swim the corners of the pond. Exit on the beach, enter the transition on the North side.

Bike

Distance: 24.8 Miles.

Olympic Bike

The course exit the park turning right onto NE 117th St. The athletes will continue on 117th St. following it as it turns into NE 119th St. The course stays on NE 119th St until NW 36th Ave, where you will make a right turn heading north. Then continue on NW 36th Ave. as it becomes NW Seward Rd. NW Seward becomes NW 41st Ave, the athletes will continue onto NW 41st Ave. heading north. At NW 169th the athletes will turn left heading West on 169th. Riders will continue on 160th and turn right onto NW 61st Ave. The participants stay on NW61st Ave. until reaching NW 179th St. here they will turn left. Athletes will follow 179th as it becomes NW Krieger Rd. They continue on NW Krieger Rd. as it turns briefly into NW 192nd St. The course stays on NW Krieger Rd. by slightly turning left and continuing North on NW Krieger Rd. The course follow Krieger as it turns right and becomes NW 209th St. The athletes continue on 209th as it turns south and becomes NE Delfel Rd. The course continues South until reaching NW 199th St., here the course turns right heading west on NW 199th St. The course follows NW 199th St. until reaching NW 61st. Ave where the course turns to the left and South onto NW 61st Ave/O’Leary. The course takes a right onto NW 196th St./O’Leary Rd. the course then turns left at NW 67th Ave. and then right onto NW 192nd St. At this point the course turns left back onto NW Krieger Rd. and follows the same route back to the transition area at Salmon Creek Park. All USAT rules apply to this event.

Olympic Bike Course

Sprint Bike Course

The Sprint Distance course is an out & back course. Meaning the athletes will head out in one direction and turn make a 180 degree turn and follow the same course. The course exit the park turning right onto NE 117th St. The athletes will continue on 117th St. following it as it turns into NE 119th St. The course stays on NE 119th St until NW 36th Ave, where they then make a right turn heading north. They continue on NW 36th Ave. as it becomes NW Seward Rd. NW Seward becomes NW 41st Ave, the athletes will continue onto NW 41st Ave. heading north. At NW 169th the athletes will turn left heading West on 169th. Approximately .2 tenths of a mile past 51st Ave. on 169th St. the athletes turn around and head back to the park. All USAT rules apply to this event.
Sprint Bike Course

Run

Distance: 6.2 Miles

Both run courses are a simple out and back. The course will take you on a tour of the Salmon Creek Park and it entirely on the park bike path. There will be two aid stations.. The first will be at the 1.55 mile mark, which is the sprint distance turn-a-round. A second aid station will be at the 3.1 mile mark or the olympic distance turn-a-round. Each aid station will have water, Heed Hammer Nutrition’s electrolyte replacement drink, and Hammer gel in a variety of flavors. Make sure as you approach you call out what you’d like so our volunteers can get you the right product.

SPRINT DISTANCE DUATHLON

First Run

The Sprint distance duathlons first run will start with the mens sprint distance swim start. It will be a mass start. Seed yourself accordingly. The run will start at the southern most edge of the transition area on the sidewalk and will cross over the bridge then make a 90 degree right turn. The run will follow the bike path the entire distance. Volunteers will guide you and signage will be at directional changes. There will be an aid station at the run turn-a-round. All USAT rules apply to this event.

A Note From the Race Director

Thank you all for coming out this sunday and spending your morning with us. We hope you’ll all have a great day and enjoy our event. We are really excited to have been able to add the Vancouver Triathlon & Duathlon to our race schedule and look forward to bringing you this event for many more years. A huge thank you to Trevor and Tracy for trusting us with their baby. We hope they enjoy racing the course and not having to worry if everything is in place. We really want to thank all of our volunteers who without we wouldn’t have been able to do any of our events this season. Our first season as series has been one of lessons learned and great gratitude to those who have done our events. We have some great things lined up for next year including a couple of new venues and some different distance options as well. Have a great race this Sunday, hopefully the weather stays away for the morning and we get overcast and high 60’s, low 70’s, then there can be no excuses.
